By johncal Jan 21, 2019

When’s the last time you thought about your windows? They’re a critical part of any dwelling but we rarely spend time contemplating them. Your Bellevue, WA windows need the care and attention of a professional team if they’re going to look their best.

Because we love what we do, we’ve compiled a list of the most interesting facts about windows that you can learn. Their history is incredibly interesting.

1. It started with the Romans

The first windows were nothing more than empty holes in the wall. The ancient Romans are credited with creating the first glass window. The idea quickly became popular for obvious reasons.

These windows didn’t look much like the ones you’re used to seeing today. They were extremely thick and difficult to see out of.

In early Eastern cultures, people often used greased paper instead of glass to save money.

2. They Were Prized

Glass used to be so valuable that only the rich had real windows and their homes. And even they tended to only have windows in the most important rooms. It wasn’t until the 17th century that they became common features in homes.

3. They’re Grand

Grand, luxurious buildings typically have an impressive number of windows. The White House has 147, far more than the American average. Windows allow sunlight and fresh air to stream into a dwelling. That’s why people love the so much.

Buckingham Palace in England has even more windows than the White House. It has at least 760.

4. They’re Gorgeous

Stained glass windows became a staple in churches long ago. They’re very striking. The method to create stained glass was perfected in the middle ages. The same strategies that people used then are still employed now.

5. They’re Useful

If you’re a homeowner and you don’t have energy efficient windows, you’re doing yourself a disservice. Poor windows can cause a spike in your energy bills. For instance, many older homes have single pane rather double pane glass. Investing in new windows in that situation could ultimately save you money and make you more comfortable in your home.

6. They Don’t Have to be Expensive

You don’t have to spend a fortune if you decide that you want new windows. The beauty of living in 2018 is the ability to vet new companies. It’s very easy to find online reviews about legitimate companies. That way, you don’t have to put an expensive project into the hands of people that you don’t know anything about it.

7. They’re Versatile

Modern windows are extremely versatile. They can be designed to fit any home design. One of the most famous home in the country, The Winchester Home in Sane Jose, California, is famed for its many unique windows.
